Málaga brings fragrant Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez into a remarkable range of sweet and traditionally aged wines.
Muscat of Alexandria.
Fragrant grape and citrus-peel notes with a sweet, rounded palate; sun drying and ageing can add richer dried-fruit flavours.
Rich fruit and raisin notes with generous sweetness; colour and the depth of aged flavours depend on the wine’s preparation and maturation.
Málaga PDO is distinct from Sierras de Málaga, even where their vineyard landscapes overlap. Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez lead a tradition that includes wines made with added alcohol as well as naturally sweet examples. Sun-dried grapes, ageing and the use of concentrated must create different expressions. Look at the complete wine type and sweetness rather than assuming every Málaga is made the same way.
