The protected Rheingau wine origin includes vineyards along the Rhine and Main and the registered outlying areas near Frankfurt and Felsberg.
Riesling is the region’s principal grape. Read the bottle’s sweetness description: origin alone does not distinguish dry wine from sweeter styles.
Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)
Spätburgunder offers a red-wine expression of the Rheingau. Assmannshausen is a documented centre; vineyard, producer and vintage shape the individual wine.
Rheingau g.U. is the protected designation of origin. Its legal vineyard area differs from municipal territory. The VDP growers’ association is a separate organisation. A locality or vineyard name describes a smaller origin and does not create another PDO.
