Marcillac is a vivid introduction to Fer Servadou, locally called Mansois, from the red-earth vineyard hills of Aveyron.
Red and dark berries, pepper and herbs with fresh acidity and a dry, grippy finish.
Red berries and floral notes with a fresh, gently textured palate.
Fer Servadou is central to Marcillac AOP, giving the reds a distinctive local identity. The grape’s local name Mansois is a useful label clue, while the iron-coloured rougier soils help make the vineyard landscape memorable. Rosé provides another expression of the same grape heritage. The red colour of the ground should not be treated as a literal ingredient in the wine’s flavour. Compare producer and site for differences in fruit, spice and tannin.
