Côtes de Bergerac explores a richer side of Dordogne wine, with structured reds and white wines carrying noticeable sweetness.
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec.
Dark berries, plum and savoury spice with a dry, substantial palate and firm tannins.
Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle.
Ripe orchard fruit and floral or honeyed notes with clear sweetness and balancing freshness.
Côtes de Bergerac AOP covers two different colour families. Reds use familiar local grapes such as Merlot and Cabernet, while the whites range through sweeter categories. The word Côtes does not simply mean a superior version of every Bergerac bottle. Read the colour and sweetness description first, then consider vineyard, producer and ageing. The separately presented white guide focuses on that sweet-wine branch of the appellation.
