Sighnaghi pairs hilltop views over the Alazani with family cellars, Kakhetian food and an inviting introduction to Georgian wine.
Sighnaghi, also written Signagi, is a wine town and travel gateway rather than a protected appellation of that name. Its cellars and restaurants can introduce amber wines, Saperavi reds and grapes from several parts of Georgia. Nearby vineyard villages add more precise origin stories, including Tibaani’s protected amber wine. A wine tasted in town need not have been grown beside it. Look for the grape and vineyard origin when following a favourite bottle beyond the hilltop cellar.
