Castelli Romani offers white, red and rosé wines from Rome’s famous southeastern hill country.
Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Malvasia del Lazio, Trebbiano Toscano.
Floral and orchard-fruit notes; check whether the wine is dry, amabile or frizzante.
Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Merlot.
Berry-led red blends with structure and sweetness varying by wine type.
Castelli Romani DOC is broader than any single hill town or neighbouring DOC. Malvasia and Trebbiano lead the whites; several red grapes contribute to rosso and rosato. Dry, sweeter amabile and lightly sparkling frizzante types create further choices. The designation should not be mistaken for a guarantee that every wine is Frascati or a single-grape bottling.
