A broad Hungarian PGI covering eligible vineyard land in three northern counties and specified areas in Budapest and Pest.
A broad permitted range, including Furmint and Hárslevelű
White wines encompass multiple varieties and styles across a large northern Hungarian area.
Permitted varieties include Kékfrankos, Cabernet Franc and Merlot
Red wines form a separate permitted category; the PGI is broader than the Tokaj white-wine tradition.
Permitted dark-skinned varieties
Rosé and siller have separate category requirements in the specification.
Permitted white varieties
Sparkling wine is a separately regulated product category.
Version 5 covers class I and II vineyard-cadastre land in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Heves and Nógrád, Budapest-Rákosliget, and nine named Pest municipalities. Upper Hungary is the existing catalogue identity. The legal PGI area is not identical to that single catalogue region. Geographic containment does not make every Tokaj wine certified under this PGI.
