Muscat of Patras offers fragrant sweet whites from small-berried Muscat, with both sun-dried and fortified traditions.
Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains.
Fragrant flowers, citrus and ripe fruit with a sweet palate; dried-grape and aged examples can add honey and deeper fruit notes.
White Muscat, the small-berried Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, is the grape behind this sweet-wine PDO. It is distinct from Roditis-based Patras and the red Mavrodaphne designation. Wines may be made from sun-dried grapes or through fortification, giving different expressions of sweetness and texture. Some focus on youthful perfume, while ageing adds more developed flavours. The full type on the label explains more than the Muscat name alone.
