Ortenau pairs Baden’s red Pinot tradition with Riesling under its local Klingelberger name.
Riesling.
Citrus, peach and flowers with fresh acidity; sweetness varies.
Pinot Noir.
Red berries, cherry and spice with a dry palate and fine tannins.
Ortenau is a Baden wine district rather than a separate PDO. Riesling, locally called Klingelberger, and Spätburgunder offer contrasting introductions to its hillsides and valleys. Granite and other geological materials appear across the landscape, with differences between individual sites. The local Riesling name identifies a grape tradition, not a guarantee of sweetness. Read dry or sweeter styling and producer information alongside the named vineyard to discover the particular expression.
