Across a broad inland area of Washington and part of northern Oregon, largely east of the Cascade Mountains.

Columbia Valley AVA is a cross-state origin containing many smaller AVAs. The Cascade rain shadow creates a generally dry inland setting, but elevation, river influence and vineyard exposure vary widely. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Riesling offer contrasting starting points. The AVA identifies grape origin, without prescribing a variety or cellar method. Look for a smaller appellation or vineyard to bring this very broad wine landscape into closer focus.
