Lourinhã is a distinctive Portuguese wine-brandy origin, celebrated for spirits matured in wood.
Lourinhã’s protected designation belongs to aguardente vínica: a spirit distilled from wine and matured in wood. It is a different drink from both still wine and fortified wine. Ageing brings warm spice, wood and dried-fruit nuances, with the producer and maturation shaping the result. Wines grown nearby may carry other origins, including Lisboa; Lourinhã itself identifies the wine-brandy tradition.
