Provincia di Modena IGT preserves an older provincial wine identity, shared with the former Modena IGT name.
Provincia di Modena and Modena were two names for one IGT, rather than separate vineyard origins. The IGT was revoked in 2009 as the Modena DOC was established. The longer name remains useful for understanding older labels and the province’s wine history. Today’s Modena DOC follows its own specification. Read the bottle’s vintage and full designation to distinguish the historical IGT from the current protected wine identity.
