Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is the region’s signature red, moving from juicy everyday bottles to deeply structured hillside wines.
Cherry, plum and violet with rounded fruit, fresh acidity and a dry finish.
Dark berries and cherry with spice, firmer tannins and savoury depth.
Montepulciano is the grape at the heart of this DOC, rather than the Tuscan town associated with Vino Nobile. The broad origin embraces varied elevations, soils and producer approaches. Fresh, fruit-led wines and oak-aged examples can therefore feel quite different. More detailed names on the label help locate the vineyard within Abruzzo. Look for the producer’s ageing choices and a specific subzone when seeking a more focused expression of the region.
