Monastrell
Jumilla puts Monastrell at the centre of a dry inland wine landscape crossing two Spanish regions.
Dark berries, plum and herbs with ripe tannins; weight and oak influence vary.
Berry fruit and freshness in a lighter expression of the local red grape.
Jumilla DO is broader than Murcia or the town of Jumilla alone. Monastrell, the grape also known as Mourvèdre, is its defining red variety, with other grapes and colours adding alternatives. Old vines and low rainfall shape many producer stories without describing every vineyard. Compare the actual origin, blend and ageing for differences in freshness, power and tannin.
