Madeirense reveals a different side of Madeira wine country, with fresh still whites, reds and rosés beyond the island’s fortified tradition.
Verdelho.
Citrus, orchard fruit and gentle tropical notes with a fresh palate; sweetness depends on the bottle.
Tinta Negra.
Red berries, flowers and spice with freshness and gentle tannic structure.
Madeirense is a protected designation distinct from the fortified Madeira PDO. Its still white, red and rosé wines use a varied permitted grape palette, while qualifying sparkling wines also belong to the broader modern framework. Verdelho offers one white route and Tinta Negra a red alternative. Slope, altitude and exposure vary between vineyards and islands. Read the wine type, grape and precise vineyard statement rather than assuming every Madeira-region wine is fortified or sweet.
