Colares offers a remarkable coastal encounter with Ramisco reds and Malvasia whites.
Ramisco.
A firm, savoury red with fresh acidity; bottle age can soften its tannins and reveal more complex earthy and spice notes.
Malvasia de Colares.
A fresh coastal white with restrained fruit and a savoury edge; maturation can add breadth.
Colares is closely associated with ungrafted vines rooted beneath deep coastal sand, although the designation also recognises firmer soils. Ramisco reds combine firm tannin and acidity, often rewarding patience; Malvasia de Colares offers a distinctive white alternative. Look for the certified origin and grape rather than assuming every wine made near Sintra follows this particular tradition.
