Where it grows: The Tigullio coast and inland vineyard country in Genoa province, extending well beyond Portofino itself.

Golfo del Tigullio–Portofino and Portofino are alternative names for the same DOC. Vermentino and Bianchetta Genovese are useful white-grape starting points, while local reds and rosés add further possibilities. Still, lightly sparkling, sparkling and sweet types have distinct identities. Follow the full wine name rather than treating a Portofino label as proof of one grape or a vineyard inside the harbour town.
