Cowra brings ripe Chardonnay and generous reds to the inland slopes of the Central Ranges.
Ripe peach and fig-like fruit; oak can add breadth.
Syrah.
Ripe fruit with earthy or peppery detail and a generous palate.
Warm days, cooler nights and relatively dry late summers help grapes ripen in Cowra. Vineyards occupy varied slopes and valley settings rather than a single soil type. Chardonnay is a useful starting point, alongside Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot and other varieties broaden the range. The registered region is distinct from Orange and Mudgee, despite their shared Central Ranges zone.
