Santa Maria La Palma

Italy

Founded in 1959 in Alghero, Sardinia, Cantina Santa Maria La Palma is a cooperative built by local families of winegrowers and farmers. Its vineyards lie in the Nurra, where sea breezes, the mistral and a mild Mediterranean climate shape the fruit. The cooperative focuses on Sardian varieties including Vermentino, Cannonau and Cagnulari, alongside selected international grapes, producing IGT, DOC and DOCG wines as well as some natural, no-sulfite bottlings. Sustainability is central to its work, with organic and biodynamic practices, animal-powered farming in some vineyards, renewable-energy initiatives and certified recyclable packaging. The wines express Alghero and the wider identity of Sardinia, from fresh whites to increasingly prominent red wines and the Akènta sparkling wine.
