Markus Molitor is an eighth-generation, family-owned Mosel estate led by Markus Molitor himself as owner and winemaker. Since taking over in 1984, he has focused on reviving the Mosel’s historic potential through wines that express vintage, ripeness, and origin with precision. The estate farms steep, highly regarded vineyard sites across the Mosel and Saar, with slate soils and varied microclimates shaping distinct, site-typical wines. Viticulture is organic and sustainable in practice, with meticulous hand work and selective harvesting. In the cellar, wines are fermented spontaneously with natural yeasts and largely matured in large wooden barrels, without standardizing aids such as cultured yeasts, enzymes, or fining agents. The house is also known for using capsule colors to indicate wine style, emphasizing harmony and balance over formal sweetness categories.
