La Briusa di Penna Piersandro is a family-run winery in Vigliano d’Asti, in Piedmont’s Monferrato hills. The Penna family has been connected with vineyards for generations, with Piersandro, Milena, Erika and Clara Penna involved in winemaking. South-east-facing vineyards sit at 279 metres on predominantly calcareous, slightly sandy soils, with Guyot-trained vines including young Nebbiolo and Barbera vines up to 50 years old. Most vineyard work, including harvesting, is carried out by hand, combining modern technology with an essential human touch. The winery includes a modern vinification room and a cellar dating from 1968 for bottle and wood ageing. Its artisanal, low-intervention approach is reflected in limited releases, including a 2021 Monferrato Nebbiolo produced in just 400 bottles.
