Murgas

Portugal

Murgas is a family-owned estate in Bucelas, Lisboa, restored in 2014 by João França in the spirit of his grandfather Sérgio Geraldes Barba. Its vineyards lie on limestone and calcareous marl slopes in one of Portugal’s oldest wine regions, with Arinto, Esgana-Cão and Touriga Franca. The estate focuses on niche, single-vineyard wines that express Bucelas’ distinctive terroir and indigenous varieties. Winemaking follows a respectful, minimal-intervention approach, including spontaneous fermentation and traditional methods, allowing the site to speak clearly. Alongside wine, Murgas maintains a biodiverse rural estate and welcomes visitors for vineyard tours, tastings and picnics featuring local products.
