Clos La Coutale is a family-owned estate in the Lot Valley of Cahors, in France’s Sud-Ouest. Run by the Bernède family, it has been led by Philippe Bernède since 1985, with his son Sébastien joining him in 2020, continuing a winemaking tradition said to span six generations. The estate is organically farmed, having begun conversion in 2019 and achieved certification in 2022. Its vineyards lie on southwest-facing alluvial and clay-limestone soils within the meanders of the Lot, with three distinct terroirs that contribute drainage, freshness, and tannic finesse. Notes describe a careful vineyard approach, including low average yields, aimed at producing consistent, ageworthy Cahors wines.
