Alfredo Egia

Spain

Alfredo Egia is an independent vigneron in Spain’s Basque Country who has made Txakoli for over 20 years, owning and operating the estate as its sole winemaker. His approximately 4 hectares comprise steep, south-facing plots managed with regenerative, low-intervention and biodynamic practices, including undisturbed soils, diverse cover crops and no herbicides for over eight years. Production is small-batch, with manual harvesting and whole-bunch pressing. Fermentation is spontaneous in barrel, followed by lees aging without bâtonnage, blending in stainless steel and bottling without sulfites, fining or filtration. Mentored by naturalist Imanol Garay, Egia supports the vineyard’s natural microbial ecosystem and is planning full biodynamic conversion.
