Promontory is a family-owned estate in Oakville, Napa Valley, founded by the Harlan family after H. William Harlan discovered the site in the early 1980s and acquired it in 2008. Set in a secluded, wild canyon on Oakville’s southwestern ridge, the property is defined by steep wooded slopes, dramatic elevation changes, and a mix of volcanic, sedimentary, and metamorphic soils. Vines occupy only a small portion of the land, with the rest left as forest and woodland. The estate focuses on a single Cabernet-dominant wine, made in very limited quantities. Its philosophy is to translate the natural character of the site, with nature seen as the artist and the winemaker as translator. Will Harlan serves as managing director, and winemaking is led by David Cilli.
