Château Chasse-Spleen is a family-owned estate in Moulis-en-Médoc, held by the Merlaut/Villars family since 1976 and still run across generations by Jacques Merlaut, Bernadotte Villars, Claire Villars and Céline Villars. Founded in the early 18th century, it is known as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel and for its historic underground cellar, the first built in the Médoc. The estate farms gravel over clay-limestone and clay over limestone soils, with parcel-by-parcel selection and grape tasting guiding what goes into the grand vin or second wines. Its approach combines technical precision and contemporary winemaking with respect for terroir. Chasse-Spleen is HVE 3 certified and also stands out for its longstanding engagement with contemporary art.
