Kongsgaard is a family-owned Napa producer founded in 1996 by fifth-generation Napa natives John and Maggy Kongsgaard. The winery remains small and hands-on, with production limited to about 30,000–36,000 bottles annually from estate vineyards on Atlas Peak and sourced fruit from Carneros. John, his son Alex, and winemaker Evan Frazier personally manage the intensely farmed, low-yielding vineyards and employ a low-intervention, archaic winemaking approach. This includes native-yeast fermentations, extended barrel aging, minimal additives, and little to no added sulfur, resulting in powerful, graceful wines that express their vineyard origins.
