Can Ràfols dels Caus

Spain

Can Ràfols dels Caus is a family-run estate in Avinyonet del Penedès, in the limestone landscapes of the Garraf Massif, founded and shaped by Carlos Esteva. Organic certified since 2012–13, the vineyards are hand-harvested, farmed without artificial irrigation and with organic fertilizers, with some plots also worked biodynamically. The winery, built into the rock, uses gravity flow, parcel-by-parcel microvinification, spontaneous fermentations and minimal sulfites, reflecting a low-intervention approach. Esteva is noted as a pioneer in the region, with a strong commitment to terroir, sustainability and the recovery of native Sumoll. The wines are described as authentic, elegant and distinctive, with both ageworthy cuvées and fresher, more accessible bottlings.
