Weingut Familie Rauen is a multigenerational family estate in Thörnich on the Mosel, working steep slate vineyards shaped by the river’s microclimate. The Rauen family farms carefully by hand, using organic cultivation principles, greening and reduced-yield pruning, though no formal organic certification is reported. Riesling is the main variety, alongside Rivaner, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. Winemaking combines traditional methods with modern technology: selected wines undergo spontaneous fermentation, reds mature unfiltered in barriques, and whites ferment in stainless steel before resting on fine lees. The estate’s wines emphasize the minerality, fruit and individuality of steep slate sites, including estate, single-vineyard, noble-sweet and sparkling styles. Today, the fourth generation continues the family’s long winemaking tradition and hands-on approach.
