Mastrojanni, founded in 1975 by lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni, is a historic estate in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Montalcino. Since 2008, it has been owned by the Illy Group, chaired by Riccardo Illy. The estate spans about 110 hectares, with roughly 40 hectares of vineyards divided into 37 plots on south-facing slopes. Annual production is approximately 175,000 bottles, including Brunello di Montalcino. Winemaking is led by long-time Managing Director and oenologist Andrea Machetti, alongside consultant Maurizio Castelli. The philosophy emphasizes low-intervention, 'close to nature' viticulture, with a recent shift towards holistic and biodynamic practices, though no formal organic certification is noted. The winery itself is built with bioarchitecture using natural materials to avoid magnetic interference. The unique microclimate, influenced by Monte Amiata and the Orcia river, contributes to the distinct character of the wines.
