Perelada is a family-owned estate in Catalonia’s Empordà, centered on the medieval Perelada Castle, where winemaking is documented from the 14th century and was revived by Miguel Mateu in 1923. Its vineyards span the region’s varied slate, sand, clay, fluvial and gravel soils, supporting terroir-focused wines from distinct estates. The winery combines this long history with modern technology, micro-vinification and research into soils, harvest timing, irrigation and grape varieties. Sustainability is central, with LEED Gold-certified winery construction, drip irrigation, reduced oak use and biodiversity projects including the reintroduction of white storks. Winemaking is led by Enric Serra, with both local and international varieties represented.
