Founded in 2013 by Rui Lucas, Prior Lucas is a family-owned boutique winery in Portugal’s Bairrada region. Working on a small scale, Rui Lucas is both owner and head winemaker, overseeing recently acquired and expanded vineyards. The estate follows a low-intervention approach, having stopped using herbicides, focused on soil recovery, and applied sulfites only when necessary. In the cellar, winemaking combines concrete fermentation tanks built by Lucas with distinctive mixed-wood barrels. A spacious cellar also supports tours and tastings, making wine tourism an integral part of the producer’s work.
