GIZ by Luís Gomes is a small, family-run Bairrada project dedicated to recovering centenarian vineyards, mainly Baga and Maria Gomes, from poor, stony chalk soils. Owned and operated by biochemist-turned-winemaker Luís Gomes, the estate works with very limited parcels and produces only a few thousand bottles annually. Vineyard practices include low yields, green harvesting, mechanical weed control, no herbicides and minimal chemical inputs, while the wines are made with low-intervention methods and spontaneous fermentations. The chalky soils contribute natural acidity, freshness and minerality. The resulting wines are presented as authentic, structured, elegant and individual, with Filipa Pato also involved through the Baga Friends collective.
