Lauer

Peter Lauer is a family-owned Riesling estate in the Saar, Mosel, with roots dating to 1830. It is run by fifth-generation Florian Lauer, while Peter Lauer remains active in the cellar. The estate farms steep, historic vineyards planted entirely to Riesling, including many old vines, and works them largely by hand. Viticulture is organic in approach, with notes citing no pesticides or herbicides and a strong low-intervention ethos. In the cellar, Lauer emphasizes spontaneous native-yeast fermentations, reuse of barrels, slow élevage, extended lees contact, bâtonnage, and no fining. The focus is especially on expressive dry Rieslings from grand cru sites, with quality reinforced by VDP membership.
