L'Usine is an independent boutique California label founded and owned by David Phinney in 2020, with a name that nods to Andy Warhol’s studio. Focused on small-batch Pinot Noir, it sources fruit from premium sites including Annapolis Ridge and Santa Rita Hills, emphasizing low-cropping vines and hand-harvested grapes. The winemaking is detailed and hands-on, with daily cap punches, gravity-racking to French oak, nine months of lees aging without stirring, and light filtration before bottling. Phinney also designs and art-directs the labels, reinforcing the project’s personal, creative identity.
