Founded in 1992 by Mauritian-born Marc Wiehe, L’Avenir Estate is based in South Africa’s Western Cape and farms low-yielding, over-40-year-old vines. Its premium Chenin Blanc and Pinotage are described as sustainable, although no formal certification is noted. The estate has been French-owned since Michel Laroche’s 2005 purchase and joined the AdVini group following its 2010 merger with Jeanjean. Winemaker Dirk Coetzee is mentored by François Naude, the estate’s legendary former winemaker, now a consultant.
