Producer

Durin

Italy

Durin is a family-owned producer based in Ortovero in Liguria’s Arroscia Valley, led by Antonio Basso, the third generation of his family to make wine. Founded as a winery in 1978, its roots go back to the late 19th century, with the first vineyards planted in the 1920s. The estate farms steep, terraced, fragmented hillside sites across several municipalities, using traditional low-mechanisation methods suited to this demanding landscape. Antonio works without consulting oenologists, relying on inherited knowledge and experience. Durin’s wines are often described as “extreme,” reflecting the harsh conditions of these impervious Ligurian vineyards. The winery is also known for classic-method sparkling wines aged in the Toirano caves from 2011 onward.
