Cantina Cinque Terre

Italy

Founded in 1973, Cantina Cinque Terre is a member-owned agricultural cooperative based in Groppo, Riomaggiore, working across the steep coastal terraces of Cinque Terre in Liguria. Around 220 producers cultivate traditional varieties including Bosco, Albarola and Vermentino, trained in low pergolas on dry-stone-supported terraces. The cooperative produces Cinque Terre DOC wines, including Sciacchetrà, as well as other local products. Its wines are made in challenging, highly manual conditions, with limited and selected production. Although it has no formal sustainability certification, the cooperative protects the landscape by maintaining terraces, rebuilding dry-stone walls, and using a monorail for grape transport and irrigation. Independent winemaker Samuele Heydi-Bonanini is also associated with small-quantity, high-quality wines under its umbrella.
