Greece

Founded in 1990 by pioneering winemaker Angelos Rouvalis, Rouvalis Winery works in the mountainous Slopes of Aigialeia, Peloponnese. Its vineyards occupy high-altitude terraces and steep, rocky slopes overlooking the Corinthian Gulf, where poor soils, cool winds and marked diurnal variation support distinctive, mineral, fresh wines. This is demanding “heroic viticulture”: vineyard work is largely manual, with careful attention to individual plots and low-yielding vines. The winery combines traditional techniques with modern science, including precision viticulture and gravity-flow winemaking in a six-level facility built on rock. Organic farming, respect for nature and people, and a focus on indigenous Greek varieties underpin its approach to expressing Aigialeia’s terroir.
