Castello di Bolgheri

Italy

Castello di Bolgheri is a historic estate in Tuscany's Bolgheri region, founded in 1796 and the area's oldest winery. Owned by Count Federico Zileri Dal Verme, who has directed it since the mid-1990s, the family-run estate focuses on limited-quantity, terroir-driven wines from vineyards along the Viale dei Cipressi at about 70m altitude. Soils are clay-sand-limestone with pebbles and alkaline pH. The winery emphasizes sustainable agriculture and produces a flagship Bolgheri Superiore blend, with an annual output of roughly 60,000 bottles. Winemaking is overseen by oenologist Alessandro Dondi, aiming for wines of balance and elegance that reflect the estate's long heritage.
