Bodegas Viyuela is a family-owned winery in Boada de Roa, at the heart of Ribera del Duero. Although the present project began in 2003, the Viyuela family’s winemaking tradition reaches back to the early 19th century. Its own vineyards lie at high altitude, on clay, calcareous and stony soils, and are planted primarily with Tempranillo, including older vines harvested and selected by hand; Albillo and Verdejo are also produced. The extreme continental climate, with long winters, hot summers and drought, contributes to concentration and maturity. Winemaking is meticulous from vineyard to bottling, with close control during ageing. The wines are designed around a round, polished palate, aromatic complexity, very ripe fruit and well-integrated wood.
