Alfredo Bertolani is a fourth-generation family-owned winery in Scandiano, Emilia-Romagna, founded in 1925. Deeply rooted in the local winegrowing tradition, it is especially associated with Spergola and Lambrusco from the hills of Scandiano, where post-alluvial, well-drained soils rich in clay, lime, gravel, and sand help shape the wines. Since moving to a low-impact winery in 2008, the estate has emphasized sustainability through rainwater recovery, photovoltaic panels, energy-efficient insulation, and integrated environmental and food safety systems, backed by ISO 14001, ISO 22000, EMAS, and later organic certification. Under Nicola Bertolani, the winery combines tradition and technical innovation, including work with Charmat refermentation, extended maceration, and classic-method Spergola.
