San Polo

Italy

San Polo is the Allegrini family’s estate in Montalcino, acquired by Marilisa Allegrini in 2007 and now managed with her daughters, Carlotta and Caterina. Located on the southeast slope of the hill at around 450 metres, its breezy, dry conditions and poor, stony galestro soils suit Sangiovese. The estate farms organically, receiving BIO certification with the 2017 harvest, and manages its vineyards parcel by parcel to express individual terroirs, including the single-vineyard Brunellos Podernovi and Vignavecchia. Sustainability is central: the underground winery, built according to bio-architecture principles, holds CasaClima Wine certification and uses natural temperature and humidity control. Alongside traditional Brunello, San Polo explores minimal-intervention techniques and amphora vinification, including the organic Amphora Vignamasso Toscana IGT.
