Algueira is a family-owned winery in Ribeira Sacra, Galicia, founded by Fernando González Riveiro and his wife Ana, with their son Fabio now taking on day-to-day leadership. Based in Doade on the Sil River, the estate is known for heroic viticulture on extremely steep terraced slopes, with vineyards rooted in slate, schist, gneiss and quartz. Algueira focuses on native Galician varieties, from Mencía and Godello to Treixadura, Albariño, Merenzao, Brancellao, Sousón and Caiño, often through single-vineyard wines. Their approach emphasizes recovering historic terraces and indigenous grapes, with hand harvesting, native-yeast fermentations, gravity-flow handling and minimal-intervention winemaking to express the distinct identity of Ribeira Sacra.
