Château Maucoil

France

Château Maucoil is a historic estate in Orange, in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area, with origins reaching back to Roman times and a castle built in 1624. Its vineyards include old plots planted in 1895 and extend across Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône Villages, on red clay, limestone, sandstone and sandy Rhône-derived soils. The estate preserves all 13 permitted Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties and produces red and white wines. Farming is certified organic, with traditional ploughing and earthing-up, no chemical herbicides, natural fertilizers and hand harvesting with multiple sorting stages. Since Bernard Duseigneur acquired the property in 2022, the vineyards have been moving toward full biodynamic practices, while Bénédicte Arnaud, Charles Bonnet and the Lavau partners remain involved in winemaking. Reds are structured yet fresh and fine; whites are supple and aromatic.
