Mesta is a Spanish wine project produced by Peninsula Vinicultores at Fontana Bodegas & Viñedos in Fuente de Pedro Naharro, Castilla y León. Its vineyards lie at 700–900 metres in central Castile, within the historic cañadas associated with the medieval Mesta shepherds, and are still crossed by migrating flocks. The vineyards are organically farmed as integrated ecosystems, with an emphasis on biodiversity and reducing carbon, water and waste footprints. Working mainly with native varieties including Garnacha, Tempranillo and Verdejo, Mesta uses minimal-intervention winemaking to produce fresh, elegant and mineral wines under the Vino de la Tierra de Castilla designation, including red, white and rosé styles.
