Malhadinha Nova is a family-run estate in Albernoa, in Alentejo’s Baixo Alentejo, acquired by the Soares family in the late 1990s and developed into a wine, farming and hospitality project. Its 80 hectares of vines grow on gentle slopes of drained schist, integrated into the surrounding ecosystem and biodiversity. The estate practices organic, sustainable and extensive agriculture, alongside olive, honey, vegetable and livestock production. Winemaking combines gravity-flow design, hand harvesting in small baskets and minimal intervention with modern technology; grapes are moved without pumps and wines rest underground before ageing in French oak. Luis Duarte, supported by resident oenologist Nuno Gonzalez, leads a philosophy joining science, knowledge and terroir. Relais & Châteaux hospitality and farm-to-table cuisine extend the estate’s connection to Alentejo traditions.
