Domaine de l’Ecu

France

Domaine de l’Ecu is a family-run estate in the Loire Valley, founded by Guy Bossard in 1970 and now managed by Fred and Claire Niger. With about 30 hectares of vines and a team of 15, it produces around 40 cuvées. A pioneer in natural viticulture, the domaine has been organically certified since 1975 and biodynamic (Demeter) since 1998, adding BioDyvin certification in 2014. Its philosophy rejects all technological interventions—no added yeasts, enzymes, or acidification—and emphasizes manual harvests, gravity-fed reception, and extensive use of over 100 amphorae for aging. The wines are unfined and unfiltered, reflecting a deep commitment to terroir and sustainable practices.
