Domaine Berthoumieu

France

Domaine Berthoumieu is a family-owned estate in Viella, Madiran, with roots dating to around 1850. Acquired by the Bortolussi family, it is now managed by sisters Claire and Marion Bortolussi, with winemaking overseen by sixth-generation winemaker Didier Barré. The domaine farms clay-loam-gravel vineyards under HVE3 certification and is transitioning to organic farming. Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed, with Tannat and Cabernet Sauvignon vinified separately through extended maceration before aging in new oak or tanks. The wines reflect a traditional, hands-on approach focused on structured Madiran reds.
